On May 4, 2025, this song came to me at 11:30am. By 1:45pm, it was recorded and ready to release. I would love to know your thoughts after hearing this.
Special thanks to Sugarbear for the quick mix/master. This track marks a major goal post for me of achieving the kind of flow I need to be productive creatively and musically. It also marks the beginning of a good many releases I’ve been holding onto for a while due to the context within. It is yet unreleased, but will be uploaded to all streaming platforms under the name Stinky Pinky Whitehead once the bear sprinkles a little sugar on it (you know I’m talking lap steel)
Cradle to the Grave (This Great Country)
My great grandmother died at the end of a darning needle
back in the good old days, back when things were great.
She tried to say she was tired, but her voice mattered little,
she really had no say when he came looking for a lay.
Lay me on my back,
little baby girl,
we'll crawl from the cradle to the grave
in this great country
My great grandaddy died at the end of a threaded needle
back in the good old days, back when things were great.
He tried to say, "I'm a life!" but his life mattered little,
he really had no say when they came to take his life away.
Lay me on my back,
little baby boy,
we'll crawl from the cradle to the grave
in this great country
